RISE UP was first exhibited at Galerie Wolkenban, Rostock, Germany, with the exhibition theme being„ Schiffe versenken“/'Sinking Ships'. Like other artworks by Doherty, ‘Rise Up’ goes beyond the context of the exhibition theme, implicating the audience perhaps towards social, political and philosophical actions.
